Clear The Chatter

Meditation is easy…unless you have constant chatter going on in your mind.  I can’t tell you how many time I have, in ernest, tried to quiet my mind and meditate for at least five minutes.  I will start off with the deep breaths, followed by the quiet calm then drift off to what cloths I want to wear in the morning; or my grocery list; what I can donate to downsize more; why is this pillow so lumpy, etc.  Then I look up at the clock only to see that I’ve meditated for about 60 seconds.

So I found a trick that works for me.  Instead of trying to empty my mind, I just focus on just one thing, one small goal I want to accomplish in my life.  I focus on reaching that goal and not structure HOW I’m going to reach it, but the final results.  The “how” will always come later.

This works for me – What works for you?

“To thine own self be true…and it must follow,
as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man.”
– Polomius speech in Shakespeare’s Hamlet | Act 1 | Scene 3 –

This is so true.  We must follow our own paths and not loose ourselves in someone else’s dream.
